Rocking Out Safely in a Social Distanced World

Rocking Out Safely in a Social Distanced World

TLD and UP team up for one weekend only

The Upstage Players & The Loading Dock proudly present a socially distanced presentation of Green Day’s American Idiot August 20,21,22. The performances will be at the Littleton Riverfront Commons, also known locally as the “Farmer’s Market Fields”, just over the covered bridge and across the Ammonoosuc River from Downtown Littleton.

In the difficult time we are living in, community and the arts are so important to allow us to feel like we can find a way to come together again beyond the coronavirus.  This event is carefully socially distanced.  Masks are required for entry.  Large circles will be placed on the ground to separate patrons.  Sanitation stations will be provided. The park will open early where beer from local breweries can be purchased and food vendors will be available so come early and stake out a great place to lay down your blanket.

The Green Day Musical

This musical adaption of the popular punk rock album has music written by Green Day, lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong and a book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer.  The show follows the story of three young men, Johnny, Will and Tunny. Johnny and Tunny flee a stifling suburban lifestyle and parental restrictions. Will stays behind at home to work out his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Heather.

The former pair look for meaning in life and try out the freedom and excitement of the city. Tunny quickly gives up on life in the city, joins the military and is shipped off to war. Johnny turns to drugs and finds a part of himself that he grows to dislike. He goes on to have a relationship and experiences lost love. Along the way, themes of love, loss, longing, addiction, and depression carry through the play. Social injustice and fighting through your demons to prevail and come out the other side changed for the better, make American Idiot poignant in the world we live in today.  This edgy show will not shy away from harsh situations. And the language of a world that struggles with war, drug use, and social injustice is front and center. These performances are R Rated.

The Team behind the music

American Idiot is directed by Upstage Managing Artistic Director Andrew Lidestri, with choreography by Andrew Lidestri and Madalyn Sheehy. In addition, the music direction is by Alyssa Comeau and Marie Snyder.  A varied cast of 15 and a band of 9 bring the show to life.  The cast is led by Josh and Caleb Bonilla, in what may be the first ever production to cast identical twins in the alter ego roles of Johnny and St. Jimmy.

This production has been made possible in part by generous grants from Casella Resource Solutions, Union Bank, George M Stevens Insurance, Passumpsic Bank, Ammonoosuc Community Health Center, & Lahouts.

Performances begin at 8 pm but the park will open at 6 pm. The bars and food vendors will be available early so patrons can socialize (distanced) and claim a spot.  Tickets are $12 for general admission seating.  All guests will be carded at the door.  Outside food & beverage is not allowed.  Tickets are going fast, so get yours today!

Much more information is available on the Upstage website (www.upstageplayersnh.org) on our social distancing policies, food and beverage vendors, and the show itself.  Do not miss this amazing experience.
