Whitefield’s King’s Square set for renovation

The Coös Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) has been awarded a $250,000 Grant. The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) grant is set to refurbish buildings in Whitefield around the town’s Kings Square. THe proposed renovations will result in over 20 low-mod income and workforce housing apartments. In addition, to at least four commercial spaces will be made available on street level.

CEDC Executive Director Mike Scala stated “CEDC is extremely excited to begin this project in earnest. Thanks to both Governor Sununu and Commissioner Caswell, of the New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs, for their continued support of this ambitious plan. CEDC will now work toward the commission of a comprehensive feasibility study to examine the costs, benefits, and requirements of the purchase and renovation of several properties surrounding historic Kings Square in downtown Whitefield.”

About Northern Border Regional Commission

Created by the 2008 Farm Bill, the NBRC is a Federal-State partnership. It is comprised of a Federal Co-Chair and the Governors of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York.  The Commission was established to organize federal funding towards specific State economic and community development projects. These projects are focused on the rural parts of the Northeast. The investments made by the NBRC have a direct impact of creating jobs, supporting community-oriented projects and attracting private investments. These initiatives will help organizations and municipalities meet their funding objectives.

Unfortunately, times get difficult when critical components within our work flow need servicing. This is one of those times. Currently our playback server is aged beyond repair. If it fails, the station will go dark. We need to replace this expensive component before we loose our ability to broadcast. You can read more about our mission on our GoFundMe page. Take a moment, if you could, and help us to continue to serve our community with our news, and coverage.

  1. Sad fact is that there is a reason Whitefield is in the state it is. It was an old railway town which lost the railway and thus the business. No amount of paint and money will turn it into a revitalized bouncing paradise. More thrift shops, pizza parlors and low income rentals won’t help.
